Aspects describe relationships between planets. They are one reason a natal chart feels more detailed than a list of signs. An aspect shows whether two planetary functions blend, support, challenge or polarize each other.

Main aspect types

AspectBasic meaningHow it feels
ConjunctionMerging of energiesStrong, concentrated, obvious
SextileHelpful opportunitySupportive but needs action
SquareCreative tensionFriction, pressure, growth
TrineNatural flowEase, talent, comfort
OppositionPolarity and awarenessTwo ends seeking balance

How to read an aspect

Name the two planets first. Then name the aspect. Finally, describe how the two life functions interact. Venus square Mars is different from Mercury square Saturn because the planets involved are different.

Healthy interpretation

A hard aspect is not bad. It often shows a pattern that becomes powerful once conscious. A soft aspect is not automatically perfect; it still needs maturity.

FAQ

Are squares bad?

No. Squares show tension, but tension can create growth and skill.

Are trines always good?

They show ease, but ease can become passive if not used consciously.

Do aspects require exact degrees?

Precise chart work uses degrees and orbs. A simple meaning tool explains the symbolic pattern.
